A hallmark identifies the type and purity of the metal used to create a piece of jewellery. Identifying the platinum hallmark gives you the reassurance that the precious jewellery you have chosen is high quality platinum which will last a lifetime.
All platinum jewellery is hallmarked and there are a number of symbols or marks that should be displayed on a piece of jewellery to indicate that it is high purity platinum.
Hallmarks from around the world
In India jewellery is stamped with a Pt950 mark, shown on the right.
In the USA either letters or symbols are used to show the purity of platinum. Symbols are shown to the right, below are some examples of the platinum letter marks to look for:

In Japan the following hallmarks are used to indicate the purity of your precious platinum:
* From April 2012 Pt999 has been used in place of Pt1000
