Platinum Band styles

Platinum rings are a reflection of personal styles and the variations in style and shape of band can be chosen to create a ring that's perfect for you. The following is a guide to some of the elements you may want to consider when choosing your platinum ring, making sure it will be a piece of jewellery you will treasure forever.

Profile describes the shape of a platinum band. Different profiles can provide a more comfortable fit and some may be more suited to personal style.

The width of a platinum band is generally between 2 and 6 mm but bands of up to 12 mm can be ordered. Wider bands allow for more design details, including engraving.

A variety of finishes can be applied to the surface of a platinum ring to give different visual effects. Matching finishes are popular for bands with the most common being:

Polished - a high shine finish achieved with polishing brushes and emery powder
Matte or brushed - a smooth look that creates a textured finish
Satin - a brushed finish with a finer texture than matte
Stone - a coarse brushed finish with a more rugged look than matte or satin
Hammered - a hand-wrought appearance achieved by using the round end of a ball peen hammer to texture the band surface

Design details
Platinum's ductility and pliability mean that platinum bands can be created in a wide range of styles.

Milgrain designs feature a raised, beaded line on the surface of the band
Beveled edge designs feature an angled edge with a contrasting or complementary finish
Weave / braid designs have raised sections that resemble strands of metal woven together
Filigree makes the most of platinum's unique qualities, using fine wire to create an antique look with elaborate patterns such as rosettes, spirals or vines

Platinum doesn't wear away over time so the possibilities for engraving are endless: from inscriptions on either the inside or outside of the band, to line designs and symbols, your chosen message will endure for a lifetime.
